Bitterroot Lewisia rediviva

Montana State Flower – Bitterroot

Bitterroot or Lewisia rediviva is another important food source for the original hunter-gatherer inhabitants of the intermountain US region. It is also the Montana State Flower and they are most often purple in color.

This one taken at the Craters of the Moon in 2019 is white with just a tinge of purple in the stamens of the flower, which is typical for this area.
